ADMINISTRATION

Jessica Barry

President Ms. Barry is a 1997 graduate of SAA, holds a BA in management from Antioch University Midwest, and has 16+ years of experience as an award-winning art director. Jessica has been honored with four Gold ADDY/Hermes and three Judge’s Choice Awards by the American Federation-Dayton. She was also awarded a Gold and Silver ADDY from the District Five Advertising Federation. Jessica’s work has also been honored by GDUSA magazine, the American Institute of Graphic Arts [AIGA], the Columbus Society of Communicating Arts [CSCA], Art Center Dayton, and the Admissions Marketing Report. In 2011, Jessica received a Dayton Business Journal “Forty Under 40” award, which honors the region’s leaders. In 2009, 2010, 2013, Jessica was nominated as Educator of the Year by the American Federation-Dayton. Jessica is SAA’s president overseeing the admissions process, advertising, and the future growth of SAA.

Matt Flick

Vice President of Education 
Mr. Flick has 17+ years of industry experience as an award-winning art director, and holds an associate degree in Visual Communications from Sinclair Community College. His clients have included Titleist, FootJoy Worldwide, IMG Canada, PGA Tour professional Mike Weir, Duncan Seawall, and others. Matt’s work has received numerous awards by organizations including the American Federation-Dayton, the District Five Advertising Federation, the American Institute of Graphic Arts [AIGA], the Columbus Society of Communicating Arts [CSCA], Admissions Marketing Report, and GDUSA magazine. Matt was featured as one of 29 graphic design professional “People to Watch” by GDUSA in 2013. He has been awarded four Gold ADDY/Hermes awards by the American Federation-Dayton and two Silver ADDYs from the District Five Advertising Federation. In 2011, Matt received a Dayton Business Journal “Forty Under 40” award, which honors the region’s up-and-coming leaders. Matt was named Educator of the Year by the American Federation-Dayton in 2009 and 2012. Matt serves as vice president, creative director, and instructor, teaching graphic design.

melissaMelissa Ferguson

Vice President of Student Affairs
Ms. Ferguson holds a BFA from Wright State University and an MBA from Northeastern University. Her experience includes serving as an academic dean and teaching drawing, publication design, interpersonal communications, and marketing. She also has many years of experience as a marketing director, developing brand profiles and advertising strategy. Melissa oversees student services, serves as SAA’s Title IX Coordinator, and assists with strategic planning.

Sally Athmer

Librarian & Editor
Ms. Athmer has a Bachelor’s Degree in English from Bowling Green State University. She has experience in both public school libraries and college libraries. She worked in the educational publishing field for more than fifteen years as an editor, and has experience in technical writing and newsmagazine publishing. Sally is the SAA librarian and also assists staff and students with researching, editing, and proofreading.

erinErin Bakara

Social Media Specialist
Ms. Bakara is a 2013 graduate of SAA and has worked as a graphic designer in both print and web design, and has experience in social media marketing and management. Erin develops and maintains SAA’s social media platforms, extending campaigns across websites, videos, email, and other channels.

mollyMolly Baker

Instructor
Ms. Baker holds an MBA from Capella University and a BA in Communications from Miami University. She has extensive experience in brand marketing, print advertising, and strategic planning, and has managed marketing campaigns for a Fortune 100 corporation. Molly presently works as a senior brand marketing manager, and teaches Marketing at SAA.

Bill Bicknell

Instructor
Mr. Bicknell holds an MA in English Composition and Rhetoric as well as a BA in English from Wright State University. He has many years of teaching experience and has served as a writing consultant. He has conducted extensive research in scholarship, emphasizing instructional methods for non-traditional and interdisciplinary students. Bill teaches English Composition.

Michael Bonilla

Instructor
Mr. Bonilla has 40+ years of experience in advertising and fine art. His award-winning paintings are sought after nationally and internationally. During his career, he has received many advertising illustration awards from: New York Art Director’s Club, The Visual Club N.Y., Print Regional Design Annual, Art Director’s Club of Cincinnati, Columbus Society of Communication Arts, American Federation-Dayton and others. His work has been featured in many exhibits, most recently in the Annual Dayton Area Works on Paper juried show at Rosewood Gallery in Kettering. Michael teaches traditional drawing and painting, and oversees the Fine Art Club.

Alexis Branham

Instructor
Ms. Branham is a 2005 graduate of SAA, and has 9 years experience in graphic design and Web design. As a senior Web designer with private firms, she handled project management and specialized in front-end development. Clients include Purina, Scotts Lawn Care, Ford, P&G, United Way, Midmark, Dayton Children’s Hospital, CareSource, Newpage, and Holloway Sportswear. Alexis teaches Web Design.

MariesaBloomMariesa Brewster

Director of Admissions 
Ms. Bloom has an Associate’s Degree in marketing management from Sinclair Community College and a Bachelor’s Degree from Wright State University in management information systems and management. She has experience in marketing, public relations, social media, and event planning. Mariesa conducts admissions interviews, plans admissions events, and is responsible for the college admissions strategy.

saraSarah Clark

Academic Librarian
Ms. Clark holds a Master’s of Library and Information Science from Kent State University and a BA in Criminal Justice from Cedarville University. She has experience in academic library collection development and in university research. Sarah collaborates with the SAA Librarian to further expand the school’s library resources.

maryMary Cleveland

Admissions Assistant 
Ms. Cleveland earned a degree in Interior Design from Sinclair Community College, and has experience in design and business administration. Mary contacts prospective students and schedules interviews with the Admissions Team.

Robin Crum

Instructor 
Ms. Crum holds both an MA and a BA in History of Art from the University of Michigan. She has many years of teaching experience at the University of Dayton, and has authored publications for several art museums. Robin teaches Art History.

 

Courtney Dove

Registrar and Student Affairs Specialist  
Ms. Dove holds an MA in Communications from Southern New Hampshire University and a BA in Mass Communications from Central State University. Courtney has extensive experience in higher education working as a registration and scheduling administrator and as a graduation coordinator. Courtney meets with students to handle all registration processes from entry to post-graduation.

saraSara Farr

Director of Career Services
Ms. Farr holds a BA in Communications from the University of Dayton. She has extensive experience in graphic design, marketing, writing, and editing, including as a designer for the Los Angeles Newspaper Group and Variety, and as a writer for Music, Inc. magazine. Sara connects with companies to develop spring externships for second-year students, bring employers to SAA’s career fair, and help graduates find opportunities in the field of graphic design.

Ashley Friedel

Recruitment Specialist
Ms. Friedel holds a BS in Public Speaking and Communication from the University of Wisconsin. She has experience in marketing, sales, and community outreach, and has served as a public speaker and community advocate in Cincinnati area schools. Ashley works as a recruitment specialist in Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky.

Jessica Frye

Communications + HR Coordinator 
Ms. Frye has a BA in Communication Studies from Wright State University, and has previous experience as an Events Coordinator for Dayton History and as an SAA admissions team member. Jessica coordinates internal and external communications for the college and develops new relationships within our community. She also arranges SAA events and serves as Human Resources Coordinator.

Tracy Gardner

Director of Financial Aid
Ms. Gardner has 20+ years experience in higher education. Throughout her career she has worked in financial aid, career services, and recruiting. Tracy serves as financial aid director, managing the financial aid process, conducting financial aid appointments with students and parents, and administering student accounts.

Patrick Gibboney

Recruitment Specialist
Mr. Gibboney holds a BA in Strategic Communications from Ohio State University. He has experience in higher education as an admissions counselor as well as handling social media in a variety of areas. Patrick works on the admissions team as a recruitment specialist in the Cleveland area.

CathyGravesCathy Graves

Admissions Assistant
Ms. Graves has been working with children and young adults for the past 28+ years. She is presently a CASA for the juvenile court system, advocating for the rights of abused and neglected children. For the last 15 years she has also worked as the office manager of her family’s business in Versailles, Ohio. Ms. Graves calls prospective students and schedules interviews with the admissions team. She also coordinates the admissions process. Cathy enjoys sharing what SAA has to offer with prospective students and hearing them get excited about their future plans.

Amanda Green

Instructor
Ms. Green holds a BA in English and an MA in Composition and Rhetoric from Wright State University. She has extensive experience as a technical writer, as well as in teaching English at the college level. Amanda has been nominated by students and recognized for excellence in teaching. She teaches English Composition and Creative Writing at SAA.

Abbie Heaney

Marketing, Student Housing & Facilities Coordinator
Ms. Heaney coordinates the marketing campaigns, as well as the work necessary to ensure a safe and comfortable facility. As Housing Coordinator, she meets with area apartment communities so that she can inform students of rental opportunities. Prior to coming to SAA, Abbie attended Smith College and worked in the travel industry for over 20 years.

susanSusan Jauss

Instructor
Ms. Jauss is a 2010 graduate of SAA, and has worked as an Interactive Designer for six years. She specializes in UI/UX design for websites, apps, and other interactive installations, and has also designed college eLearning courses. Susan teaches Web Design.

Rebecca Kuder

Instructor
Ms. Kuder holds an MFA in Creative Writing from Antioch University, Los Angeles, and a BA in Theatre Arts from Earlham College. She is a published author, and has served as the concentration chair of the Individualized Master of Arts in Creative Writing program at Antioch University Midwest. She has taught a variety of writing and curriculum design courses, and led many fiction writing workshops. Rebecca teaches Creative Writing.

Josh Luke

Recruitment Specialist
Mr. Luke holds a Master’s in Management, Strategy, and Leadership from Michigan State University and a Bachelor’s in Family Financial Management from Ohio State University. He has a background in higher education human resources and financial aid. Josh works on the admissions team as a recruitment specialist for the Northwest Ohio area.

Kelly Mercer

Instructor
Ms. Mercer, a graduate of the University of Dayton, has nearly a decade of industry experience as an award-winning producer and media design director, working for TV stations and advertising agencies in the Dayton region. Kelly has worked with The WB and CW Networks, The Daily Buzz, and various clients across the U.S. Her work has received numerous awards, including three Emmy Awards from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, six Gold ADDY and seven Silver and Bronze awards from the American Federation-Dayton, and various industry awards for writing, editing, and producing. She currently serves as the Executive Vice President for the Ohio Valley Region of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. Kelly teaches Video and Motion Design, the Business and Ethics of Graphic Design and leads the American Advertising Federation’s National Student Advertising Competition (NSAC) team as the faculty advisor.

Lindsey Meredith

Instructor
Ms. Meredith earned an AAS in Visual Communications from Sinclair Community College. She has more than ten years of experience as a graphic designer, illustrator, and Web designer, and has taught design at the University of Dayton. Her client list includes Nickelodeon, Disney, Hasbro, and Leapfrog. One of her designs was chosen for publication in LogoLounge Volume 9, which features logos selected in an internationally recognized logo design competition. Lindsey teaches Introduction to Applications at SAA.

Michelle Moor

Instructor
Ms. Moor earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Columbus College of Art and Design, where she majored in Advertising Design. Her professional advertising career spans 20+ years, including positions as graphic designer, art director and creative director at various art studios and advertising agencies. She has been awarded numerous national graphic design and marketing awards. Michelle teaches Graphic Design.

Craig Patrick

Director of IT
Mr. Patrick’s career spans 33+ years in the graphic arts industry with responsibilities ranging from customer service manager to Vice President of the largest typographer in Cincinnati. Ten years ago Craig started his own IT business targeting the educational and graphic art industry. Craig is responsible for all IT functions and system maintenance at the school and also spends time with 
the students resolving hardware and software issues.

BrianPetroBrian Petro

Career Services Specialist 
Mr. Petro is a digital marketing consultant who has many years of college teaching experience. He also writes for a popular online magazine that promotes events in the greater Dayton area. Brian earned a bachelor’s degree from the Cleveland Institute of Art and teaches Professional Communications.

kenzieKenzie Phillips

Instructor
Ms. Phillips has a BFA in Graphic Design from the University of Louisville and is presently earning an MBA. Kenzie serves as the marketing and communications manager for a local company, operates a stationery studio, and teaches Print Design at SAA.

Brent Presley

Program Coordinator + Instructor 
Mr. Presley is a 2005 graduate of SAA, and has 10 years of experience as a graphic designer. His work as a senior designer included art direction, concept development, branding, print design and production, and trend research. Brent teaches Introduction to Applications, Design Basics and Print Production, and Advanced Typography.

Jeff Ritchie

Financial Aid Specialist 
Mr. Ritchie holds a BS in Social Psychology from Park University and has many years of experience working in the college financial aid field. Jeffery conducts financial aid appointments with students and parents, and helps students understand the financial aid process.

 

Lauren Roeth

Art Director
Ms. Roeth is a 2013 graduate of SAA and has experience as a graphic designer and web content administrator. Lauren helps develop and implement SAA’s marketing campaigns, and also designs event invitations, signage, and recruiting literature.

Kristin Schindler

Office Coordinator
Ms. Schindler attended Bowling Green State University and Anderson College, and has many years of experience as an office administrator.
As SAA Office Coordinator, Kristin connects students with staff members and the resources they need to get the most out of their education.

Rachel Summers

Admissions Assistant
Ms. Summers has 12+ years experience in financial aid administration, office management and legal assistance. She has held a variety of positions at SAA, and currently works as an admissions assistant.

Allison Thompson

Lead Recruitment Specialist
Ms. Thompson is a 2004 graduate of SAA. She most recently worked for seven years as a senior graphic artist at Berry Network Inc. in Dayton, Ohio. She also works as a freelance artist in print advertising. Allison loves meeting new students and seeing the awesome talent they possess.

dougDoug Toles

Instructor
Mr. Toles holds an MA with an Art Education Concentration and a BFA
with a Graphic Design Concentration from Miami University. He has experience as a digital project manager, graphic designer, and marketing media specialist. As a community college professor, he developed curriculum, planned and coordinated workshops, and served as art director of the school’s design collaborative. Doug was awarded Educator of the Year by the American Advertising Federation-Dayton in 2011, and teaches Graphic Design at SAA.

Karen Walker

Admissions Assistant
Ms. Walker is a graduate of Bowling Green State University. She has been teaching in the Dayton area for 19+ years and has lived in Kettering, Ohio her entire life. Ms. Walker calls prospective students and schedules interviews with the Admissions Team. Karen loves to see the beautiful artwork and talk with the prospective students about their future goals and dreams.

Anthony Wartinger

Instructor
Mr. Wartinger holds an Associate Degree of Applied Business in Advertising Art from SAA. Since graduating in 2009 he has worked as a senior Web designer, most recently for Fine Citizens, a design agency in Columbus. Clients include Nationwide Insurance, Columbus Zoo, Victoria’s Secret, DSW, and McGraw-Hill. Anthony teaches Web Design.

eliseElise Weimer

Recruitment Specialist
Ms. Weimer has a BFA in Photography from the Columbus College of Art and Design. She has experience as an art teacher and art studio coordinator, and has worked for several nonprofits. Elise serves as a Recruitment Specialist for SAA in the Columbus area.

Mark Werle

Instructor
Mr. Werle earned a BS in Professional Photography from Rochester Institute of Technology. He has more than 30 years in the industry, which has taken him from the film and darkroom era to the digital age. Mark is a photographer, videographer, and mobile/web app developer. Commercial clients include Huffy Bicycles, Marriott, the Leukemia Society, and Miller Valentine. Mark teaches Photography.
