What do you get when you combine 19 design companies and professional organizations with 85 second-year School of Advertising Art students?

Connections, of course!

This past Friday, March 10, 2017, SAA hosted its second annual Career Fair, “Connections.” The event kicked off at 11:30 a.m. with a catered lunch and presentations from SAA President Jessica Barry, first-year student Lindsey Schulze, and second-year student and 2017 GDUSA “Student To Watch” Caleb Ritter.

Companies in attendance included ACCO Brands (Dayton, OH), BarryStaff (Dayton, OH), The Bricks Agency (Yellow Springs, OH), Cardinal Solutions (Columbus/Cincinnati, OH), Civitas (Miamisburg, OH), Columbus Crew (Columbus, OH), Creatives on Call (Cincinnati, OH), The Creative Group (Columbus, OH), Germane Solutions (Dayton, OH), GTB (Detroit, MI), KRUSH Technologies (Dayton, OH), Magnetic Mobile (Dayton, OH), Marxent (Dayton, OH), Portfolio Creative (Columbus, OH), Real Art (Dayton, OH), Stephens Direct (Dayton, OH), Taylor Communications (Dayton, OH), and Zipie (Lexington, KY). Additionally, professional design organization AAF Dayton was on hand to introduce students to the benefits of chapter membership.

During the event, students had the opportunity to network, learn about potential career opportunities, and present their design work. The excitement from both employers and students was contagious.

“I liked seeing all the different types of agencies and finding out about their company cultures and getting their different perspectives on the industry,” said second-year student Brian Webb. “Every time I talked to someone, I got a small life lesson — I didn’t know what to expect, but by the end, I left making a lot of connections with people I might have the chance to work with in the future.”

Another second-year student, Sean Cloonan, added: “I liked the diversity of the companies that were there. There were a lot of firms at the career fair that were interested in providing great experiences and opportunities.”

We can’t wait to see what’s next for these students and employers!
