Marxent Labs

Gabbi Hardin, a 2014 SAA graduate, spent her 4-week Externship with Marxent Labs. Gabbi was a student extern a Externship14_MarxentLabsmonth prior to her graduation. Marxent Labs thought so highly of her performance that they brought her on as a full-time designer after graduation.

Marxent is a down-to-earth company that makes out-of-this-world software. A leader in Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality for advertising, live events, and virtual 3D products, companies such as SanDisk, Speedway, State Farm, and UPS turn to Marxent for experiences that defy reality.

“With the diverse work at Marxent, a designer has a range of responsibilities and projects to create,” said Ryan Roche, Senior Designer. “This is where the Externship Program provided by SAA is a great opportunity for students to receive real-world experience, and we were delighted to bring Gabbi aboard. She was able to contribute to Marxent right away with projects from illustrations to mobile app UX to photography.”

Real Art

Brie Rapp, Ben Griffen, and Sara Hinegardner, 2014 SAA graduates, spent their 4-week Externships with Real Art, an award-winning, digital, creative agency. While Brie chose to find employment closer to her hometown after graduation, Real Art thought so highly of their Externs that Ben and Sara both were hired as full-time graphic designers.Externship14_RealArt

Real Art combines the never-before-seen with the why-didn’t-I-think-of-that. Blending art and invention, Real Art gets people to discover and remember their clients. Their team includes digital designers, print designers, industrial designers, developers, technologists, writers, engineers, and fabricators. They handle projects from strategy and concept through production and implementation. Real Art serves a growing roster of the world’s top brands from offices in New York, Chicago, and a 25,000-square foot headquarters and development lab in Dayton, Ohio.

“The SAA Externship Program is a great benefit to both Real Art and to the students,” said Casie Lord, head of Real Art’s Human Resources and Recruitment. “It’s a big enough agency that students will be assigned to assist on real client projects, expanding on their classroom learned skills, yet small enough that they don’t feel overwhelmed.”  Lord notes that students are put with seasoned Real Art employees who they can lean on if needed, yet have the opportunity to shine with their own concepts and design.  “We are firm believers in interns and of course, Externs from SAA.” Lord continued by saying, “Many of our full-time employees on staff, including our President, started as interns at Real Art.”

Midmark Corporation

Amber Dee, a 2014 School of Advertising Art graduate, spent her 4-week Externship with Midmark Corporation’s Externship14_MidmarkeMarketing team. Amber was brought in as a student extern a month prior to her graduation. Midmark was so impressed by her professionalism and performance during the externship that they hired her for a full-time position after graduation.

With offices in Tampa, FL; Glasgow, KY; Versailles, OH; Dayton, OH; Lincolnshire, IL; Torrance, CA, and internationally in the UK, France, Italy, and India, Midmark is a global leader, providing products and services for healthcare providers.

“Being a recent SAA grad myself, I knew it would be extremely beneficial for Midmark to start partnering with the SAA Externship Program,” stated Lauren Thompson, a 2013 SAA graduate and Web Content Administrator at Midmark Corporation. “Everyone loved having Amber on board. She was a huge help to our eMarketing group. Not only did she learn a lot, but we did as well.”

The Ohlmann Group

Meghen Welly, a 2014 SAA graduate, spent her 4-week Externship with The Ohlmann Group. The staff at Ohlmann Externship14_OhlmannGroupGroup was so impressed with Meghen’s skills and professionalism that they hired her as a full-time designer after her graduation.

The Ohlmann Group is a strategic marketing communications firm that uses marketing strategy, media services, web development, creative design, search marketing, and public relations to help their clients create the future.

Jim Hausfeld, Creative Director at the Ohlmann Group, shared his thoughts. “We have enjoyed a long and prosperous relationship with SAA, and — thanks to their innovative Externship Program — recently hired Meghen to join our staff. The SAA students have always been extremely well-prepared for the rigors of the workplace and often teach us a thing or two while we are teaching them. It’s a win-win for both the student and employer. SAA simply creates successful designers. In fact, four of the seven members of my creative team are SAA grads.”

OmniSpear

Tyler Reed, a 2014 SAA graduate, spent his 4-week Externship with OmniSpear. Tyler proved himself so indispensible Externship14_Omnispearduring his Externship that OmniSpear hired him as a full-time web designer and developer after graduation.

OmniSpear, Inc. is a web and network solutions company providing a wide range of IT services in the Cincinnati and Dayton, Ohio region. They specialize in custom web application development, website design and maintenance, IT support, and custom mobile app development.

“Tyler instantly became an integral part of our team here at OmniSpear, Inc.,” observed Brad Churby, OmniSpear President. “With his fresh take on graphic arts and design, we were able to incorporate his talents into our many web projects. The Externship gave us the opportunity to utilize Tyler’s expertise while simultaneously allowing him to build his own role within the firm.
