    Scholarships and Tuition Awards

    Through the tuition awards and scholarships listed below, nearly $200,000 will be awarded to the incoming first year class.

    Daniel E. Johnson Memorial Scholarship [$10,000]

    eligibility: First year students accepted to start classes on September 1, 2010.

    award amount: One student who demonstrates artistic talent and high academic achievement, with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher, will be offered a $10,000 award [$5,000 per year]. Essay required.

    deadline: March 26, 2010

    application requirements:
    1. Official High School and/or College Transcript or GED Report

    2. Portfolios should include, but are not limited to, drawings, paintings, photography, and/or digital art. Digital artwork may be submitted in printed or digital form. All digital files should be saved in either PDF or JPEG format. Flash drives, CDs, and DVDs will be accepted for judging. If artwork is currently submitted into another competition [Governor’s Youth Art Exhibition, county art shows, etc.] you may submit printed or digital copies of original artwork.

    Your name and phone number should be clearly written on the back of each piece of artwork, CD, DVD, or flash drive. All artwork should be contained together within one portfolio case, binder, or other bag. All artwork submitted must be adequately wrapped and protected. saa will not be held liable for any work not protected.

    3. Submit an essay describing how an education from the school of advertising art will affect your future. The essay should be double-spaced with 1” margins on all sides. Please limit your essay to no more than 500 words. Include your name, address, and phone number.

    how to enter: Hand-delivered or mailed entries must be received by saa [1725 E. David Rd. Kettering, OH, 45440] by March 26, 2010 by 5:00pm. Entries postmarked by March 22, 2010 will also be accepted.

    announcement of awards: Winners will be notified by phone on Friday, April 9.

    picking up your portfolio: Students can retrieve their portfolios starting on Monday, April 12 during normal business hours [9:00am–5:00pm, Monday–Friday].

     

    art and academic achievement awards [$10,000]

    award amount: Up to four students who reflect excellence in both art and general academics will each be offered a $10,000 award [$5,000 per year].

    portfolio competition awards for enrolled students [$5,000]

    eligibility: Up to four enrolled students will each be offered a $5,000 award [$2,500 per year] based on past academic success and the level of skill and creativity shown in their portfolio. Enrollment required.

    3. If not already enrolled, complete the enrollment agreement packet and submit your $100 enrollment fee. This must be complete by March 26 to qualify. To receive an enrollment agreement call saa at 877 300 9866. This packet is not downloadable from the saa website.

    awards for multicultural students [$5,000]

    eligibility: First year students accepted to start classes on September 1, 2010. Applicants must be identified as African American, Latina/Latino, Native American, Asian American, Pacific Islander, or any other ethnic minority. Essay required

    award amount: Up to four students who exhibit great artistic skill and past academic success will each be offered a $5,000 award [$2,500 per year].

    deadline: March 26, 2010

    application requirements:

    ohio skillsUSA awards [$2,500]

    eligibility: Students awarded first place at the North Central and Southwest Regional Advertising Design Contests, and the Ohio State SkillsUSA Advertising Design Contest and Web Design Contests. For contest information visit skillsusa.org.

    award amount: Up to four students will each be offered a $2,500 award [$1,250 per year].

    how to enter: Select technical schools are affiliated with the SkillsUSA organization. Inquire with your high school guidance couselor.

    announcement of awards: Awards will be announced at awards ceremonies at each competition site.

     

    saturday morning art class awards [$500]

    eligibility: Students enrolled in the 2009–2010 Saturday Morning Art Classes

    award amount: One $500 award each session to an outstanding student

    saa tuition awards: All saa tuition awards are credited toward saa tuition and expenses.

     

    frequently asked questions

    1. If I already sent in my Official High School Transcript, do I need to send another copy with my scholarship application?

    Yes. Please submit the most recent copy of your Official High School Transcript.

     

    2. Do I need to send more than one copy of my portfolio if I am entering multiple competitions?

    No. You only need to submit one copy of your portfolio.

     

    3. Can I take photographs of my work and submit my portfolio on CD?

    Yes. Your artwork may be submitted on CD, DVD, or flash drive. Artwork received by email will not be acceptable for judging.

     

    4. Can I submit my digital portfolio by email?

    No. Digital artwork must be hand-delivered or mailed on CD, DVD, or flash drive.
