saa announces $157,500 in tuition awards to incoming students from around Ohio.
Enrolled students competed for Memorial Scholarships, Portfolio Awards, and Art & Academic Achievement Awards. In addition, monies were awarded to SkillsUSA winners and Governor’s Show participants.
The $10,000 Dan Johnson Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Beth Chasse of Vermillion, Ohio. Dan Johnson, longtime saa instructor and mentor to hundreds of area designers, passed away late in 2009. A Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in Dan's honor by his family and friends. Congratulations Beth!
$10,000 Art and Academic Achievement Awards were given to: Kathleen Helton from Clinton Massie H.S.; Ashley Thabit of Southview; Ariel Deming from Four County Career Center; and Amanda Anders from the Career & Technology Education Centers [C-TEC] in Newark, Ohio.
Four enrolled students were awarded $5,000 each in this year’s Portfolio Competition. Congratulations to: Christian Slone and Grace Sadler from Eastland Career Center; Allison Metzger of Chillicothe; and Moriah Anderson from Northridge H.S. and Miami Valley Career Technology Center [MVCTC].
In addition, $5,000 Multicultural Awards were given to: Chantal Klaas from Live Oaks Career Campus; Jirah Lackings of MVCTC; Jodie Thomas from Lima Senior H.S.; and John Estoye who is homeschooled.
In this year’s SkillsUSA State Championships, $2,500 awards were announced for: Danielle Thompson from MVTC for her First Place win in the Advertising Design competition; Rick Parmenter and Ethan Muller from Delaware Area Career Center for their First Place win in the Web Design Competition.
Students honored for their participation in the Ohio Governor’s Youth Art Exhibition include: Danielle Williams from MVCTC; Heather Davis of Beavercreek H.S.; Kent Rhodebeck of Northmor H.S.; Jacob Inscore from Mansfield H.S.; Kelsey Padavana of Hilliard Davidson; and Chelsea Musselman from West Muskingum. $2,500 will be awarded to each of these students upon enrollment to saa.
