KETTERING, Ohio – May 16, 2017 – The School of Advertising Art, a nationally recognized college for graphic design, has further cemented its ties to Kettering by announcing plans to move forward with a $6 million, 23,000-square-foot expansion.
The entire campus expansion is a $6 million investment, which will be partially financed through PNC Bank. Initial renovations to SAA’s current 14,000-square-foot building were completed in August 2016.
“By 2025, we project enrollment will increase by 106 percent,” said SAA President and Owner Jessica Barry. “Our faculty and staff needs will increase by 87 percent. This far exceeds the capacity of our current facility.”
Plans for the 23,000-square-foot expansion were released to the public May 16; construction on the site is estimated to be completed in 2018.
“SAA has been a fixture and asset in the Kettering community for 34 years,” said Mayor Don Patterson. “Kettering is home to the talented students and faculty from SAA. Their graduates stay here and enliven our local businesses and nonprofits with their creativity and professionalism. It is vital to us that SAA continues to call Kettering home for decades to come.”
Currently, SAA offers a two-year Associate Degree of Applied Business in Advertising Art. As part of the expansion, the college plans to add a bachelor’s degree completion program, which will provide students with increased options for entry-level employment and advancement in their professional careers.
Each year, SAA brings new residents to Kettering — students from across the country move to Kettering and live in local apartment complexes.
“Seventy percent of our students move to Kettering to attend SAA. The expansion of the Kettering campus will provide a safe and comfortable environment that will allow students to collaborate, create amazing work, and continue to contribute to this community,” added Barry.
